Business practices and applied research at UNC encourage healthy eating and physical activity. Carolina Dining Services (CDS) continues to increase its usage of local and organic food in campus dining halls, while offering a wide variety of vegetarian and vegan options. FLO (Fair, Local, Organic) Food, a student organization, documents the amount of “real food” purchased by CDS. CDS has increased its percentage of “real food” offered each semester. UNC researchers in the Gillings School of Public Health work to provide access to healthy, sustainable food for disadvantaged groups across North Carolina.
