Leveraging college sports to advance campus sustainability, stakeholder engagement, and community inclusion
May 10 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pmFree
By launching from collegiate sports’ high profile platform, sustainability efforts have the reach to more broadly engage stakeholders on and off campus and enhance sustainable behaviors among fans such as students, faculty/staff, alumni and community members. This webinar will discuss how campus sustainability professionals can work together with athletics departments to green their operations and then leverage that leadership to advance campus sustainability, stakeholder engagement, and community inclusion.
For instance, the University of Colorado Boulder athletics department is now the most sustainable unit on campus and has high visibility on and off campus. Lessons from using that visibility and influence to activate sustainability programs more broadly will be presented. Likewise, experiences from Arizona State University’s award-winning green sports program and from the 2017 NCAA Final Four men’s basketball tournament in Phoenix will also be highlighted. The webinar will also review results of an AASHE/Green Sports Alliance Collegiate Athletics Sustainability Survey and plans that are forming to showcase collegiate green sports during the forthcoming national Green Sports Day and the White House initiated call-to-action to use sport as a driver for climate action.
