University-funded air travel, student and employee comuting, and UNC-owned vehicles contribute to 19% of the University’s total greenhouse gas emissions. Programs to improve mass transit and multi-modal transportation options and increase the use of alternative fuels drive Carolina’s transportation strategies. 49% of employees and 84% of students arrive on campus via a means other than a single-occupancy vehicle. Programs such as Chapel Hill Transit and the Commuter Alternative Program cut down on transportation-related emissions.
