Carolina was first (in a 9-way tie) among public universities and ninth overall in the level of federal research funding secured during 2014. Carolina is one of only two universities without a school of engineering that ranks among the top 25 universities in federal research funding. Total federal and nonfederal external research funding at Carolina reached $793 million in 2014, triple the amount 16 years ago. The increased funding provides more opportunities for students and faculty to make major research breakthroughs and solve some of the world’s most pressing issues.
