UNC has invested more than $2.3 billion in capital improvement projects since 2000 and expanded the square footage on campus by 58%. New Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified lab buildings for genome sciences and oral health sciences were completed in 2012. New design guidelines, robust analytics, and rigorous commissioning reduce the energy and water use in new buildings and provide work and study spaces that foster productivity, collaboration, and health.
