In 2010, the Facilities Services Division was awarded a grant from the 2010 Clean Fuel Advanced Technology (CFAT) Project. CFAT is a one million dollar initiative of the NC Solar Center – funded in part by federal dollars from the NC Department of Transportation – that provides funds to government, business and non-profit fleet and fuel providers for transportation-related emission reduction projects. In recognition of Facilities Services’ commitment to balancing transportation needs with environmental responsibility, Facilities Services received $55,510 to replace four combustion-powered vehicles now operating on campus with four fully electric vehicles.
Two of the vehicles have joined the fleet of the University Mail Services Center which delivers the mail all over campus. Both of these vehicles routes are on Franklin Street and Cameron Avenue (East and West); along with a few other roads.
The other two neighborhood electric vehicles have joined the fleet of the University’s Facilities Services Housing Support Department. They will primarily be used in the 3 apartment complexes – Baity Hill Family Housing, Odum Village and Ram Village.
