A growing range of initiatives, launched by individuals, groups, and departments across campus, reflect the increasing institutionalization of sustainability at UNC. Efforts to make university operations more sustainable include constructing efficient and innovative buildings, increasing transportation options, reducing energy and water use, using new techniques when caring for the grounds, and many more. Recognizing these initiatives, the State awarded the University the State Government Sustainability Award in 2005.
