"Green building" is a loosely defined collection of land use, building, interior design and construction strategies that reduces environmental impacts. Benefits of building green include:
- reduced energy, water, and materials consumption
- lower life-cycle costs
- protection of ecosystems
- improved occupant health and productivity, and
- no significant cost premium

Elements of green building are included in many buildings across campus. All 33 residence halls have efficient lighting and low-flow showers. Recent renovations have replaced single pane windows with thermopane windows in at least 12 residence halls.
